Why it matters

One boy's fight. Every kid's future.

Ben Stelter in an Oilers jersey with Connor McDavid

Who was Ben Stelter?

  • 🏒An Oilers superfan who cheered “Play La Bamba, baby!” and became friends with Connor McDavid.
  • 🧠Diagnosed with glioblastoma, a very aggressive brain cancer, at age 4.
  • 💙Ben passed away in 2022 at just 6. His family started the Ben Stelter Foundation to help other kids fighting cancer.
Proton therapy deposits most of its energy on the tumour; regular radiation keeps going past it

What is proton therapy?

  • 🎯A super-precise radiation that stops right at the tumour, so far less harm to healthy tissue.
  • 🧒Extra important for kids, whose brains and bodies are still growing.
  • 🏥Canada is the only G7 country without it. The Ben Stelter Centre in Edmonton will be the first.
